Tips & Practical Advice
What Parisians know but guidebooks don't tell you
🧳
Watch out for pickpockets

Les lignes 1, 4, 7 et 13 are the most targeted. Keep your bag in front of you at peak hours and never check your phone while holding a handrail.

📅
Activate on Monday for the Navigo Pass

The weekly Navigo Pass is valid from lundi au dimanche. If you arrive on a Wednesday, you pay a full week for 3 days. Opt for Paris Visite instead.

🚶
Walking is often faster

For trips of fewer than 3 stations, walking is often just as fast — if not faster — once you factor in transfers, stairs and waiting. Check with Google Maps.

🏃
Avoid peak hours

The metro is packed from 8–9:30 am et de 5:30–7:30 pm. Shift your visits by 30 min to travel comfortably in a less crowded space.

🗺️
Navigate by terminus

In the Paris metro, directions are indicated by the terminus name (not by "north" or "south"). Before getting off, identify which terminus you wtez.

🌙
Last metro timetable

The last metro leaves around 00h30 en semaine et 1:30am on Friday and Saturday. Plan your return or take an Uber — Noctilien night buses take over.

📶
Wi-Fi and signal in the metro

Wi-Fi is available on the lignes automatiques 1 et 14 and in many stations. 4G/5G signal works in tunnels across most des lignes récentes.

🚫
What you should never do

Don't jump turnstiles (€90 fine). Don't eat in the carriages. Don't block the doors. Don't sit on the floor in the corridors.

Accessibility

Only lines 1, 14 and a few line 4 stations are fully wheelchair-accessible. The bus network is 100% accessible. See ratp.fr for details.

🌙
Noctilien buses — the night metro
When the metro closes, 47 Noctilien night-bus lines take over all night. Recognisable by their numbers starting with N (N01, N02…). Same ticket as during the day.
